Hi, I'm

Nice to meet you!

About Me

I love it when things run smoothly, and everything just works out. When I build something, I hope that it gives other people that feeling, and the chance to have one of those moments where you discover you have more time on your hands than you’d expected.

I’ve spent a lot of time making artist’s jobs easier, and I’m looking to branch out to all kinds of new and different people with difficult lives. I’m developing my skills in a number of areas, but have a particular (and particularly well-documented) interest in web development.

When I’m surprised by a little bit of free bonus time, I turn on a podcast and sip on some tea.

Projects

The Setup Machine 3

The Setup Machine 3 is a commercial auto-rigging plugin for Autodesk Maya that allows users to bypass much of the difficulty of the rigging process.

Rigging (the process of setting up a character for animation) in Maya or any 3D animation package can be tedious and repetitive when things are going smoothly, and can grind production to a standstill when it does not go smoothly. When creating characters for games, some rig issues might not be discovered until late enough in the pipeline that a significant amount of work can be made useless, or days might be lost trying to retain it.

The Setup Machine makes correct initial character setup painless, makes going back and making changes after the fact trivial, and prepares files for export to game engines with the click of a button. The Setup Machine 3 allows users who are experienced with rigging techniques to quickly move past initial character setup, and build anything else they might want on top of a solid rig. It also opens rigging up to artists who know less about the intricacies of character rigging.

I worked as project lead on the product, taking primary responsibility for getting it up and running and out the door.

The New Pioneers

A young girl questions what she knows about her post-apocalyptic world in this collaboration between Anzovin Studio and BitFilms.

The New Pioneers itself questions the conventional wisdom about the time and team size required to produce high-quality animation. A small team put together this trailer using creative lighting, rigging and animation techniques to produce a distinctive look.

With input from the team, I wrote and implemented a series of pipeline scripts and small tools to keep the software from slowing down our lightning-fast team of creatives.
